Part 3

Keep Calm and Carry on Investing part 3

#4 Chant the mantra: Stocks always go up

This isn’t the first bear market you’ve likely seen, and it sure won’t be the last. But historically, every single time the market has pulled back, it has also recovered and come roaring back.

Assuming a 50-year investment horizon, you can expect to live through about 14 bear markets. As you get used to being uncomfortable, it might be helpful to know that you won’t need to be uncomfortable for too long, as bear markets tend to be short-lived.

And while they’re painful (stocks lose an average 35% in a bear market), they gain 111% on average during a bull market.

#5 Write down how you’re feeling in our guided worksheet.

Markets move faster than we can track sometimes, so it might be helpful to force yourself to slow down and become more mindful of your investment actions by writing down how you feel.

We compiled a worksheet that might be a helpful starting point for that. Click below to download the worksheet, print it, and fill it out yourself.
