The S&P 500 closed at an all-time high Friday (1/19) bringing its gains to +1.5% YTD. In mid-Dec, we had noted that there was not a single instance where S&P 500 fell 20% and got within 1% of an all-time high and subsequently did not make a new high. The longest it took was 20 days, which is why we called for "new highs in January."

Is it bearish for stocks to make an ATH (after falling 20%)? Of the 11 precedent instances:- 11 of 11 times, equities higher 6M later with a median gain of 8%- 7 of 11 signaled strong gains ahead over next 18 months- so overall, quite positive Investor inflows continued to be negative for a 3rd consecutive week with about $1 billion in outflows, according to data by Goldman Sachs. The outflows were worse for small-caps which are suffering from outflows.
