House in Disarray

The US House is in disarray after the preferred Republican candidate for Speaker, Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana), was unable to get the 217 Republican votes that are needed to be elected Speaker on the House floor.  This lack of a Speaker occurs as the nation faces a November 17 deadline to avoid a government shutdown, as well as serious troubles in Israel, Ukraine, and the Southern US border.
